Tubby the Tuba
Mars and Jupiter from ‘The Planets’
Nutcracker Suite
Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto 1st movement
Some instruments of the orchestra get all the tunes, while others spend
most of their time in a supportive role. Paul Tripp’s story of a tuba who
was tired of playing “oompah, oompah all the time” originated in
1941 and was set to music by George Kleinsinger. It quickly became
popular the world over.
Our performance features Alex Papps, well-known ABC Playschool
personality, and the Scotch College Orchestra under John Ferguson. Tickets include bus transport from Woodend to Braemar, details of which will be available on the Festival website www.woodendwinterartsfestival.org.au
This children’s concert is in memory of John Nieuwenhuizen (Jnr), who died shortly after moving to Woodend with his young family. John studied at the Conservatorium of the University of Melbourne, composed, taught piano and became Editor of 24 Hours magazine. He was committed to fostering the love of music in children.
