About Woodend

Woodend is ideally situated just under 1 hour from the centre of Melbourne. It is a historic town known for nearby landmarks such as Hanging Rock and Mt Macedon. Woodend experiences extremes of weather, including cold winters with the occasional snow day. The cooler climate in winter combined with altitude of approximately 600m gives Woodend a later climate than Melbourne, and an extended winter and spring.

Historic buildings line the High Street; a bit further north of town is the Avenue of Honour. The Festival makes use of other historic buildings such as St Ambrose church for most of the concert events. Other intimate venues are used for numerous literary and visual arts events.

Woodend's High Street has plenty of boutique stores, cafes and restaurants. There's time to idle during the Festival, stop for a coffee, sample local delights and take home a delicious treat or a gorgeous scarf.

We hope you enjoy your stay in Woodend ... if you don't have time during the Festival weekend we hope you will return at a later date to sample all that Woodend has to offer.
