DRAWING
ON NATURE: Botanical artists of the Macedon Ranges

at the Old Schoolhouse Gallery, Woodend. (Corner Avenue of Honour and Clark's Lane, just north of Woodend) 10am - 4pm daily. Free admission
The
magnificent garden environment of the Macedon Ranges, along with
the beauty of indigenous forests and surrounding countryside has
provided inspiration for this exhibition of Margaret Castle
and friends. Also exhibiting are Steph Goss and award-winning artist
Jenny
Phillips.

Jenny Phillips:
-
Jenny
Phillips is a Fellow of the
Linnean Society UK, a contributing artist
to Highgrove Florilegium for Prince of Wales Trust,
the winner of the gold medal
RHS Kew Gardens (UK). She regularly teaches and
exhibits in Australia, the USA, Italy, the UK and
South Africa, and is the Founder,
Artist/Director of The Botanical School of
Melbourne.
Margaret Castle:
-
Marg has had several
solo exhibitions and has exhibited widely in
botanical art exhibitions, including the Royal
Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. Her work is held in a
number of private and corporate collections
throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France,
Japan and USA. Marg has taught botanical art in
Victoria and South Australia and currently teaches a
talented group from the Macedon Ranges.
Steph Goss:
-
Steph Goss has had a
solo exhibition at the Sofitel in Melbourne and
contributes to local exhibitions and exhibitions of
botanical art at the Royal Botanic Gardens,
Melbourne. Steph is a part time teacher at The
Botanical Art School of Melbourne. Her work has been
sold overseas in Germany, Hungary and England.

Angela Langley:
-
Over the last 20 years
Angela has developed Hawthorn Park, one of Macedon
Ranges’ most significant gardens, known for its bold
design and unique plants. Angela began painting at
Jenny Phillips’ School for Botanical Art 13 years
ago and has been attending Marg Castle’s classes for
the past 3 years. Angela has participated in
several exhibitions including “The Art of Botanical
Illustration” at the Royal Botanic Gardens,
Melbourne. Her recent work is notable for the
subjects she chooses, often drawing a single cone or
fruit bringing character and life to the subject.
Dr. Peter Wells:
-
Peter
is an associate professor of Physics at Monash
University and has provided a different perspective on
Botanical Art using photography, digital video, x-rays
and computed tomography. Using similar technology he has
been involved with the National Gallery in producing
imaging of a 1475 Hans Memling painting in order to
establish its provenance.
Margaret
Castle has also donated a framed, original botanical painting (Michelia
Doltsopa) which will be raffled for the Festival.

Anne Latreille
lives in Melbourne where
she writes books and articles on gardening and landscape. Her most
recent publication is Garden of a Lifetime, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch
at Cruden Farm.

and some galleries will have special exhibitions. FREE EVENT More information on Open Studios will be sent with tickets.
