The magnificent garden environment of the Macedon Ranges, along with the beauty of indigenous forests and surrounding countryside has provided inspiration for this exhibition of Margaret Castle and friends. Also exhibiting are Steph Goss and award-winning artist Jenny Phillips.

Margaret Castle Jenny Phillips Steph Goss

Jenny Phillips:

  • Jenny Phillips is a Fellow of the Linnean Society UK, a contributing artist to Highgrove Florilegium for Prince of Wales Trust, the winner of the gold medal RHS Kew Gardens (UK). She regularly teaches and exhibits in Australia, the USA, Italy, the UK and South Africa, and is the Founder, Artist/Director of The Botanical School of Melbourne.

 Margaret Castle:

  • Marg has had several solo exhibitions and has exhibited widely in botanical art exhibitions, including the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. Her work is held   in a number of private and corporate collections throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Japan and USA. Marg has taught botanical art in Victoria and South Australia and currently teaches a talented group from the Macedon Ranges.

Steph Goss:

  • Steph Goss has had a solo exhibition at the Sofitel in Melbourne and contributes to local exhibitions and exhibitions of botanical art at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. Steph is a part time teacher at The Botanical Art School of Melbourne. Her work has been sold overseas in Germany, Hungary and England.

Jan Duigan:

  • Jan moved to Mount Macedon hoping to further her artistic interests and skills with local inspiration.  From earlier works painted in oils she is now delighting in the discipline of water colour to record accurate details of plants.  Her painting style is currently developing with Margaret Castle as teacher and mentor.  Jan has shown her botanical works at local art exhibitions and was a successful first time exhibitor at the Art of Botanical Art Exhibition 2006 in Melbourne.  She has a number of works in private collections.

Annabell Gordon:

  • Annabell has loved the artistic pursuits she began a few years ago.  She discovered botanical art after attending classes with Margaret Castle and has since exhibited in local exhibitions and exhibitions dedicated to botanical art.  She is a long term and well known resident of Woodend.

Angela Langley

  • Over the last 20 years Angela has developed Hawthorn Park, one of Macedon Ranges’ most significant gardens, known for its bold design and unique plants.  Angela began painting at Jenny Phillips’ School for Botanical Art 13 years ago and has been attending Marg Castle’s classes for the past 3 years.  Angela has participated in several exhibitions including “The Art of Botanical Illustration” at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne.  Her recent work is notable for the subjects she chooses, often drawing a single cone or fruit bringing character and life to the subject.

Dr. Peter Wells:

  • Peter is an associate professor of Physics at Monash University and has provided a different perspective on Botanical Art using photography, digital video, x-rays and computed tomography. Using similar technology he has been involved with the National Gallery in producing imaging of a 1475 Hans Memling painting in order to establish its provenance.

Margaret Castle has also donated a framed, original botanical painting (Michelia Doltsopa) which will be raffled for the Festival.
